Why We're Doing This

By providing the highest quality educational materials, programs and resources, Sportsman 101 aims to assist new and aspiring sportsmen and women of all ages and backgrounds in achieving their goals in the great outdoors.

Everything we do is in pursuit of our vision: A stronger, more diverse community of hunters and anglers which more accurately reflects our nation and its people as they are today.

We welcome aspiring students of all race, ethnicity, gender, religion, disability or any other attribute which makes us unique. Sportsman 101 acknowledges and celebrates these differences.

Monocultures cannot exist in nature. Every species is reliant on the existence of another. Just as biodiversity is essential to the health of every ecosystem, cultural diversity must prevail in society.

We believe a more informed and invested population - one that interacts regularly with its cherished natural resources - is the best defense in the ongoing fights against habitat degradation, mass extinction and climate change.

ABOUT THE FOUNDER

Jon Leganski went on his first white-tailed deer hunt in Missouri when he was 12 years old. He's been doing it ever since.

Hunting is community traditionally thought of as reserved for only the rural and the wealthy. This could not be further from the truth. A lifelong resident of Greater Chicago, Jon has received many raised eyebrows and questions from intrigued, curious would-be hunters. And more than his share of pointed questions from well-meaning animal lovers alike.

This unique upbringing forced Jon to question his own motives from a young age. As a result, he's able to better articulate all he and his family take from hunting and the outdoors in general, as well as what they give back in the process.

Jon has mentored a number of urban dwellers on their first hunts, but this number pales in comparison to the many who have expressed their desire to acquire their meat more ethically.

And yet, with all this interest, hunting numbers in the U.S. have gone from decline to downright free-fall...Why?

In the digital age, when information is more readily available than ever, resources for hunters (especially new hunters) have remained firmly behind the curve. We hunters love to buy gadgets. The newest, fastest, latest and greatest are sure to please. It's much easier to market to experienced hunters than to reach out to newcomers. And so, few even try.

That’s what motivated Jon to begin writing the course material for the Whitetail 101 guide back in 2017. Now in 2020, the course itself and the progress of introducing new hunters to this wonderful world of hunting deer are finally a reality. We can only go up from here.

Jon's motives are simple:

Inspire. Educate. Empower. Repeat.

North American habitat is in desperate need of more hunters. There has never been an easier time to learn and engage in the fight for our most precious lands, waters and the species that depend on them.

Our generation is up to bat. Will you step up to the plate?

We want you to succeed in your efforts to harvest some of the best-tasting and healthiest meat on the planet. That means helping you get out there sooner and within your budget.

As with most new endeavors, jumping in requires more investment up front. But learning to hunt deer does not need to take years, and getting started shouldn't cost an arm and a leg.

You may be thinking, "There's a lot I need to go hunting. Can I afford this?"

Our response: You can't afford to go it alone.

One of the most common pitfalls for new hunters is wasting time and money on non-essential items. A good mentor will show you where to focus your time, energy and hard-earned dollars.

That's where Whitetail 101 comes in.

We'll show you what we use on every hunt and point out where rookies most often waste time and money so you can focus on the good stuff.

We are 100% certain that you will save time and money in the long run by taking this course. We're so confident you'll be happy with the progress you've made, we offer a 30-Day Money Back Guarantee!

Not getting what you need from the course? Tell us!

Our goal is to help newcomers just like you clear their hurdles and get out there.

If something you need to succeed isn't in the curriculum, we want to know about it. Reach out with questions via email at [email protected].
